SABAZIO
Sabazio è l’appellativo frigio di Dioniso. I Frigi infatti chiamavano sabàzein il gridare evoè nei sacri canti che celebrano il dio; e per questo lo chiamavano Sabazio. Inoltre designavano col nome di sabi i luoghi a lui consacrati e i sacerdoti del dio. Infatti Bacco è un dio frigio (Scholia in Aristophanis Aves, glossa 874, pag.230).
Aristofane nelle Stagioni così lo invocava “Il Frigio, il signore dei flauti, il Sabazio”.

SABAZIUS
Sabazius is the Phrygian name of Dionysus. The Phrygians in fact called sabàzein the shouting evoè in the sacred songs that celebrated the god; and for this they invoked him as Sabazius. They also designated the places consecrated to him and the priests of the god with the name of sabi. In fact Bacchus is a Phrygian god (Scholia in Aristophanis Aves, gloss 874, page 230).
Aristophanes in the Seasons thus sang of him “The Phrygian, the lord of flutes, the Sabazius“.
