 THE BEAUTIFUL SHEPHERD

An absolute beauty can  draw from heaven the  king of the gods, here represented by Carla Roselli as an  eagle. Beauty acts a mirror of  the divine,  and is able to render timeless her possessor. That is exempliflied in the myth of Ganymede, grasped by the captivated numen. The beautiful sheperd, prince of Troy, in a dashing flight,  ascended among the immortals.

Pindar (Olympian I, vv. 40-46) holds that, at an even earlier time, the same fate was shared by Pelops, son of Tantalus. Poseidon, on his golden chariot, overcome with desire, took him to Olympus for the same task as Ganymede.

IL BELLISSIMO PASTORE

Una assoluta bellezza può  trarre giù dal cielo lo stesso re degli dei, qui raffigurato da Carla Roselli come aquila. La bellezza agisce come specchio del divino ed è in grado di eternare il suo possessore. Ciò è esemplificato nel mito di Ganimede, ghermito dall’avvinto nume. Il bellissimo pastore, principe di Ilio, ascese fra gli immortali in un impetuoso volo.

Pindaro (Olimpica I, vv.40-46), sostiene che, in epoca precedente, la stessa sorte fu condivisa da Pelope, figlio di Tantalo. Poseidone, sul suo carro d’oro, sopraffatto dal desiderio, lo aveva portato in Olimpo per lo stesso  ufficio di Ganimede.
