GOD HERMES, THE KEEPER OF WELLS AND SPRINGS  Mercury/Hermes is the son of Zeus and Maia, venerable nymph with lovely locks (Homeric hymns, IV, vv.1-4). Maia, Pleiad daughter of Atlas, is the patron goddess of the month of May and of the blossoming of vegetation (Ovid, Fasti). According to Proclus she leads in the realm of the visible what was previously hidden  (Ioannes Laurentius Lydus, Liber de Mensibus, IV, 76, x, 19); in the same way Hermes makes visible and clarifies the Thought  by  means of the Word.
